THE ANIMA COLLECTION

All the pieces in collection are called Anima. As with my site-specific work, this grouping started with one piece; I added another, and another, moving around the four walls of the studio and then up to the ceiling. They are numbered according to their order as they were started and completed.

This collection is inspired by the vastness and beauty of the ocean, the light, colours, shapes, movement and life in it.The underwater world is endlessly inspiring. It puts me in mind of how small our presence is, and how interconnected and interwoven we all are. When light filters through the water, the coral reef itself becomes the light in colours. This is also true of the story of these sculpted works of art.

I combined new and old materials for these pieces with techniques that allow for experimenting with limitless possibilities. Paper, fabric, plaster, clay, concrete, bio resin, japanese lacquer, liquid metals and World Tree Eco wood were used for most, in differing proportions. Sculpture is a labor intensive process and my pieces always involve the build up of many many layers and are a series of steps. The lighting component added a new, exciting and different element to the completion of each piece. It takes a village and I am blessed with a dedicated incredible team of hardworking wizards and a wonderful support group of clients and friends who were so supportive and cheered us on along the way.

Hope you enjoy Kx
